World Series of Fighting has stacked its upcoming New York City card with three titles fights.
The card will be headlined by a lightweight title fight between champion Justin Gaethje and challenger Joao Zeferino with a welterweight title fight between champion Jon Fitch and challenger Jake Shields in the co-main event. The card will also feature bantamweight champion Marlon Moraes’ defense of his title against an unannounced opponent.
Gaethje (16-0) is coming off of the fourth defense of his 155-pound title at WSOF 29 against Brian Foster, who he finished with leg kicks in under two minutes. Prior to that, the 27-year old phenom, who has won all but two of his bouts with stoppages, beat Luis Palomino twice in a row by TKO. Zeferino (21-8) fought at WSOF 30 where he suffered a decision loss to Jon Fitch in a fight for the vacant welterweight title. Most recently, he stopped Jason High with a third-round TKO at WSOF 33.
Fitch (28-7-1 ,1 NC) and Shields (31-8-1, 1 NC) were originally expected to meet at WSOF 34 on November 12 but the fight was rescheduled to WSOFNYC. The champion is coming off of his victory over Zeferino for the belt which was preceded by a decision win over Yushin Okami. Shields, meanwhile, is 2-1 in his last three which includes back-to-back submission wins over Ryan Ford and Brian Foster and a loss to Rousimar Palhares.
WSOFNYC takes place on New Year’s Eve at The Theater at Madison Square Garden and will air live on NBC Sports.
