Vitor Belfort vs Gegard Mousasi expected to meet at UFC 204

A middleweight bout between Gegard Mousasi and Vitor Belfort is expected to take place at UFC 204, according to a report by Combate.

UFC 204 has not yet been officially announced by the promotion but it is likely going to be headlined by Michael Bisping’s first defense of his middleweight title in a rematch against Dan Henderson in Manchester. The PPV date is set for October 8.

Gegard Mousasi (39-6-2) is coming off of a first-round knockout win over Thiago Santos at UFC 200 which earned him a Performance of the Night bonus. Prior to that, the former Strikeforce champion beat Thales Leites by unanimous decision at UFC London in February. Mousasi has gone 4-1 since 2015 with his only loss coming at the hands of Uriah Hall last year in September.

After losing a title fight to champion Chris Weidman in 2015, Vitor Belfort (25-12) returned a couple months later against Dan Henderson and won with a headkick knockout in the first round. After that, he lost via TKO to “Jacare” Souza in the co-main event of UFC 198 which was held at a soccer stadium in Brazil. Belfort has not gone past the opening round in any of his fights since his 2013 second-round knockout of current champion Michael Bisping.
