USADA suspends Ricardo Abreu for two years following positive drug test

Ricardo Abreu has received a two-year suspension after failing an out-of-competition drug test.

The UFC middleweight was randomly tested by USADA on June 3 and received a provisional suspension on July 1 after testing positive for 19-norandrosterone and 19-noretiocholanolone. His two years of ineligibility begin on the date of the provisional suspension meaning he will not be able to compete until July 1, 2018.

Abreu (5-1), who appeared on The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil, was signed by the UFC in 2014 and made his official debut against Wagner Silva Gomes. The BJJ black-belt won the bout with a second-round submission but went on to suffer his first professional loss to Jake Collier a year later.

Abreu is now the fourth fighter to receive a two-year sanction from USADA since the organization began testing UFC fighters. USADA's full statement on Abreu's suspension can be found here.
