The UFC will be making its second trip to Pheonix early next year.
The promotion announced on Friday that it would be holding a UFC Fight Night event at the Talking Stick Resort Arena on January 15. It’s first event in Pheonix was UFC on FOX 13 in 2014 which was headlined by a heavyweight bout between Junior Dos Santos and Stipe Miocic.
So far, the card does not have a main event but three matchups have been announced.
Fighting out of France, Cyril Asker (7-2) will be taking on Russian prospect Dmitry Smoliakov (8-1) in a heavyweight bout. Asker is coming off of a knockout loss to Jared Cannonier at UFC Fight Night 86, breaking his five-fight win streak. Smoliakov, also coming off of a loss, suffered his first professional defeat to Luis Henrique at UFC on FOX 20. Prior to that, the 34-year old had finished all eight of his opponents.
The other two announced bouts are between light-heavyweights Bojan Mihajlovic (10-4) and Joachim Christensen (13-4) and heavyweights Viktor Pesta (10-3) and Damian Grabowski (20-4).
