UFC cuts Jared Rosholt and Rafael Calvacante

The UFC has officially released heavyweight Jared Rosholt and light-heavyweight Rafael Calvacante from the roster.

The UFC’s decision to cut Rosholt (14-3) was confirmed by MMAFighting on Wednesday this week. He was released following a loss to Roy Nelson at UFC Fight Night 82, where he dropped a unanimous decision. The loss ended his three-fight win streak which included a win over Stefan Struve. Though Rosholt’s 6-2 UFC record wouldn’t usually warrant a release, all but one of his UFC wins came by decision as he was largely criticized for putting on mundane bouts.

Former Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion Rafael Calvacante (12-7, 1 NC) was cut after losing three fights in a row, including losses to Pat Cummins and Ryan Bader. Following the UFC’s acquisition of Strikeforce in 2013, Calvacante was signed by the UFC where he compiled a 1-4 record, with his single win being over Igor Pokrajac via first-round TKO. Most recently, however, the 35-year old lost a decision to Ovince St. Preux at UFC Fight Night 82.
