UFC Cut Man Jacob “Stitch” Duran Released from His Contract

The UFC has decided to part ways with long time cut man Jacob “Stitch” Duran. Stitch, a veteran of the promotion since UFC 33, has become a quiet staple of most UFC events, a figure you’re used to seeing hovering in the background and quietly getting fighters prepped. The recent Reebok deal has changed the pay dynamic of the UFC, and while much of the focus has been on fighters, additional contractors are also obligated to the uniform requirements of the deal without receiving any financial benefits.

The much criticized deal deal does not allow outside sponsors for anyone involved in the fights, even corners. Duran recently vented via twitter about how detrimental to his bottom line because he is now unable to have any additional logos on the plain vest provided. This prompted a conversation with Bloody Elbow and the release of Duran less than 24 hours later.

@InMyMMAOpinion Brother, I lost everything regarding sponsors from pay to a nice vest!
Now I have no fees and a generic vest.
— Jacob Stitch Duran (@StitchDuran) July 13, 2015

@daej81 You will be the first to know that the UFC just let me go because I spoke out about the Reebok deal. Got to look for a new job!
— Jacob Stitch Duran (@StitchDuran) July 21, 2015

Boxing cut men are contracted to individual fighters rather than the promotion, and Duran will be looking to entertain more deals over on that side of combat sports. He will also be seeking additional work from other MMA organizations.

Duran continued to express his grief with Marc Raimondi with MMA Fighting.
"It's not like I'm going to lack any type of work. It's just that I really enjoyed working with the fighters and the people in the UFC. To get a nut shot by Dana in him not calling me and having the balls to call me, it just showed me the kind of characters that I was dealing with." - Jacob Duran

Duran's last role with the UFC will be seen in upcoming episodes of The Ultimate Fighter 22 which is currently filming.
