UFC 200 Results: Cain Velasquez finishes Travis Browne in round one

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez and #7 ranked contender Travis Browne met in the first bout of the UFC 200 main card. Velasquez won the fight via TKO at 4:57 of the first round.

The former champ came out aggressively at the sound of the opening bell and ate an early counter right by Browne. After a few boxing exchanges, Velasquez shot in for a single-leg takedown that was defended by Browne and ended up in a clinch against the fence. After managing to break away, Browne did a decent job of maintaining distance until Velasquez landed a spinning wheel kick which he followed up with a flurry of punches.

Later in the round, Velasquez dropped the 6’7” Hawaiian with an overhand right and continued with ground and pound before the referee stopped the fight with three seconds left in the round.

“I have a lot of respect for Travis. It feels good to come back and do what I wanted: get a win,” Velasquez said in his post-fight interview. “My timing was off a little bit but I want to fight the best guys. I want to fight for the title.”

This was Velasquez’s first fight since losing his title to Fabricio Werdum last year.
