A pair of bouts has been added to next month’s Bellator 153 card, which is headlined by a welterweight title fight between former UFC champion Benson Henderson and current Bellator champ Andrey Koreshkov.
A featherweight bout between former champion Patricio Freire (24-3) and John Teixeira (19-1-2) was announced on Wednesday as the co-main event for Bellator 153. This fight marks Freire’s first bout since losing his featherweight title to Daniel Straus in November. Prior to that, ‘Pitbull’ was on a seven-fight win streak which included three title bouts. Teixeira made his Bellator debut in October 2014 and has since won three fights in a row via split-decision.
Also on the main card, Evangelista Santos, better known as ‘Cyborg’, will make his Bellator debut against former title challenger Brennan Ward. Santos (20-16), who officially retired back in 2014, announced earlier this week that he had signed a multi-fight deal with Bellator. Santos ended his retirement earlier this year when he beat Artenas Young via unanimous decision at Legacy FC 50. Ward, on the other hand, has won four bouts in a row with all of them coming by way of knockout or submission in under two rounds. In his last fight, he submitted Ken Hasegawa at Rizin’s debut event in Saitama, Japan at the end of last year.
Bellator 153 takes place in Uncasville, Connecticut on April 22. The card will be headlined by Benson Henderson’s Bellator debut against welterweight champion Andrey Koreshkov.
