Thiago Silva Removed from His WSOF 22 Bout

Thiago Silva has been pulled from his upcoming fight scheduled for World Series of Fighting 22, according to Ariel Helwani on Twitter.

Thiago Silva is out of WSOF 22 cause NAC wouldn't license him due to past issues, per WSOF. They are actively seeing a new opp for Kyle ...
— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) July 27, 2015

Silva was previously set to face Mike Kyle on the card, which runs head-to-head with UFC 190 on August 1. Silva was the second opponent scheduled to face Kyle; previous opponent Tyrone Spong pulled out of the fight with an injury earlier this month. The promotion is now looking for a third opponent on short notice for Kyle.

Helwani also noted that the issue with Silva stemmed from his 2011 faked urine sample, which he provided before UFC 125 in an effort to mask his prescription steroid usage. The Nevada State Athletic Commission requested Silva to appear in front of them for reasons related to the sample, and when he didn’t, the Commission refused to clear him for the fight.

Issue was he needed to appear in front of NAC due to fake urine incident of a year's back but didn't so NAC wouldn't clear him. More later.
— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) July 27, 2015

Silva explained during the investigation in 2011 that he had injured his back and did not want to pull out of the fight and lose the money he would earn from it, and took the steroids to ease the pain. The fight, which Silva had previously won over Brandon Vera by unanimous decision, was then overturned and declared a no-contest.

Silva’s troubles with the UFC did not stop there; in early 2014, Silva was arrested in Florida for threatening a jiu-jitsu school that his estranged wife had enrolled in, later fleeing the scene and barricading himself in his home, where a SWAT team tased him and brought him into custody. Following the formal charges, the UFC immediately released him from his contract. Silva was briefly brought back to the promotion in September after the charges were dropped, but was released yet again just two weeks later.

Silva signed with WSOF in January, and his first fight with the promotion was a loss to Teddy Holder on WSOF 19. The fight with Kyle was to be his second fight with the promotion.
