The UFC has just added two new bouts to the upcoming event in Brisbane: a flyweight bout between Justin Scoggins and Ben Nguyen as well as a bantamweight bout between Leslie Smith and Rin Nakai.
Scoggins (11-2) is making a quick return to the octagon after impressively beating Ray Borg via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 82, which took place less than a week ago. The 23-year old was signed by the UFC in 2013 where racked up two wins in a row—a TKO over Richie Vaculik in his debut and a unanimous decision over Will Campuzano. Scoggins lost his next two bouts but returned to the win column by scoring back-to-back unanimous decisions.
Ben Nguyen (14-5) entered the UFC with a 12-5 record and has been impressive thus far. In his debut, he scored a first-round knockout over Alptekin Özkılıç in Adelaide. Nguyen won his next fight against Ryan Benoit via submission in under 3 minutes. Nguyen, who fights out of Brisbane, will be making his third appearance in Australia under the UFC’s banner.
In a women’s bantamweight bout, Rin Nakai will take on veteran Leslie Smith. Nakai (16-1-1) entered the UFC with an unbeaten 16-0-1 record and faced #2 ranked Miesha Tate in her debut, who she lost to via unanimous decision. Smith (7-6-1) is 1-3 in her last four fights with her most recent victory being a TKO over Jessamyn Duke.
UFC Fight Night 85 will be headlined by a heavyweight bout between Mark Hunt and Frank Mir. The event takes place on March 20 in Brisbane, Australia.
