Ryan Couture opponent injured, faces Patricky 'Pitbull' Freire instead

Ryan Couture was originally expected to face Derek Anderson at Bellator 148 but will instead fight Patricky Freire, who stepped up on short notice to replace an injured Anderson.

Ryan Couture (10-3), son of all-time great Randy Couture, is riding an impressive four-fight win streak with all wins coming via rear naked choke. Couture spent the first half of his professional career in Strikeforce where he compiled a 6-1 record, including a win over KJ Noons. He was then signed by the UFC where he went 0-2 against Ross Pearson and Al Iaquinta. He made his Bellator debut at Bellator 124 in 2014 winning via rear naked choke in the first round. Couture was expected to fight Nick Gonzalez last September but the bout was cancelled after Gonzalez missed weight by over 16 pounds.

Patricky Freire (14-7), brother of former Bellator featherweight champion Patricio Freire, is coming off of his second loss to Derek Anderson in a rematch at Bellator 147. He is 4-2 in his last 6 bouts which include victories over Saad Awad and David Rickels. Freire was signed by Bellator in 2011 with a 7-1 record and has since fought 13 times for the promotion.

Bellator 148 takes place on Jan. 29 in Fresno, California. The card is headlined by a welterweight bout between Paul Daley and Andy Uhrich.
