Rockhold vs “Jacare” II to headline UFN 101 in Melbourne

The UFC is set to return to Melbourne, Australia on November 26 for UFC Fight Night 101.

The promotion revealed on Sunday that the card will be headlined by a rematch between former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold and #3 ranked Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in a rematch of their 2011 bout in Strikeforce. In their first meeting, Rockhold won a unanimous decision in their five-round fight for the Strikeforce title, which “Jacare” thinks he was robbed of.

Before his knockout loss to Michael Bisping in June, which cost him his 185-pound title, Rockhold (15-3) was on a five-fight tear in the middleweight division. At UFC 194, he won the belt by beating Chris Weidman with a fourth-round TKO in a Fight of the Night performance. Prior to that, he scored an impressive submission victory over former light-heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida at UFC on FOX 15.

“Jacare” (23-4, 1 NC) is coming off of a first-round knockout victory over Vitor Belfort at UFC 198 in front the 45,000 in attendance at the Arena da Baixada in Curitiba, Brazil. Prior to that, the former Strikeforce middleweight champion suffered his only loss in ten bouts against Yoel Romero via split decision at UFC 194. He entered that bout coming off of back-to-back submission wins against Gegard Mousasi and Chris Camozzi.

UFC Fight Night 101 will be held at the Rod Laver Arena and will air live on FOX Sports 1.
