Rafael Dos Anjos and Tony Ferguson to headline next card in Mexico City

Rafael Dos Anjos will be making his return against #3 ranked Tony Ferguson in the UFC’s fourth event in Mexico City, the promotion announced Tuesday.

Dos Anjos (25-8) is coming off of the loss of his lightweight title to Eddie Alvarez, who knocked him out in the first round of their main event bout at UFC Fight Night 90. After winning the title in 2014 against Anthony Pettis in a dominant five-round performance, Dos Anjos made one defense of his belt against Donald Cerrone. Prior to his most recent defeat, the 31-year old Brazilian suffered only one loss since 2012.

Ferguson (21-3) is on an eight-fight win streak which includes victories over the likes of Danny Castillo, Josh Thomson and Edson Barboza. The Ultimate Fighter 13 winner began his streak in 2013 with a first-round submission of Mike Rio and most recently won a unanimous decision against newcomer Landon Vannata in a Fight of the Night performance. He has expressed interest in a bout against #1 ranked Khabib Nurmagomedov, who he was scheduled to face in April before withdrawing due to a lung-related injury. A win over Dos Anjos will likely warrant a title shot.

The matchup is set to headline the UFC’s next card in Mexico City which will take place at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico. The card also features the finals of The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 3. Other details about the card are currently unavailable.
