Bellator 167’s main event has suffered a second injury.
The card was originally scheduled to be headlined by Pat Curran vs John Teixeira but an injury forced Curran out of the bout and Patricky Freire vs Derek Campos was elevated to the main event. Bellator announced on Monday, however, that Freire suffered an injury and the co-main event between Darrion Caldwell and Joe Taimanglo will headline the card instead.
Details of Freire’s injury have not been disclosed. The bout was scrapped altogether and Campos will be paid his show money.
Caldwell and Taimanglo met back at Bellator 159 where Taimanglo scored a comeback victory with a third-round guillotine finish. The loss was Caldwell’s first and neither man has competed since then.
In addition, AJ McKee will instead be facing Ray Wood at Bellator 166 on one week’s notice after his original opponent, Emmanuel Sanchez, suffered an injury and pulled out of the bout.
Bellator 166 and 167 take place this Friday and Saturday at the Winstar World Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma. Bellator 166 will be headlined by a bantamweight title fight between Eduardo Dantas and Joe Warren.
