Newcomer Jordan Rinaldi steps up to face Abel Trujillo

UFC newcomer Jordan Rinaldi will serve as a replacement for Carlos Deigo-Ferreira and is set to face Abel Trujillo at UFC Fight Night 88.

Earlier this week, Carlos Diego-Ferreira was notified of a possible violation of the USADA anti-doping policy and was subsequently pulled from his scheduled bout against Trujillo less than two weeks out. This marks the eighth time that Trujillo has had to deal with an opponent change in his UFC career.

Jordan Rinaldi (12-4) is currently on a five-fight win streak with three of those wins coming by way of submission. The RFA veteran last fought in December where he scored a submission victory over Lashawn Alcocks under the Fight Lab banner, a North Carolina-based promotion.

Trujillo (14-6, 1 NC) is 4-1 in his past five bouts. He last fought at UFC 195 where he submitted Tony Sims in the first round after struggling to find his range for the first couple minutes. Prior to that, Trujillo faced Gleison Tibau in a bout that was stopped prematurely while Trujillo was defending a submission and the referee mistakenly assumed he was unconscious. While Trujillo was in the process of appealing the loss, results revealed that Tibau had failed his drug test and the bout was overturned to a win.

UFC Fight Night 88 takes place on May 29 in Las Vegas. The card will be headlined by a bantamweight bout between up-and-coming prospects Thomas Almeida and Cody Garbrandt.
