Miesha Tate set to defend title against Nunes at UFC 200

Miesha Tate is scheduled to make her first title defense against Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 in July, the UFC announced Wednesday night.

Tate (18-5) won the bantamweight title by handing Holly Holm her first professional MMA loss as an underdog back in March. ‘Cupcake’ finished the fight with a rear-naked choke, putting Holm to sleep, midway through the fifth round of a fight that she was losing on the scorecards. The victory marked Tate’s fifth straight win and her first finish since 2012.

On the same night, Nunes (12-4) scored a unanimous decision over #11 ranked Valentina Shevchenko. The win gave her a 5-1 UFC record and elevated her to #4 on the official UFC rankings. Nunes has won three in a row with two of the three wins being finishes. Last August, ‘The Lioness’ shocked fans with a first round finish over Olympic silver-medalist Sarah McMann, knocking her down early in the fight and then quickly taking her back to win with a rear-naked choke.

UFC 200 will take place on July 9 during International Fight Week. The card will be headlined by a rematch between featherweight champion Conor McGregor and lightweight contender Nate Diaz. The event will be preceded by two others that same week.
