Michael ‘Venom’ Page out of Bellator 151, replaced by Gilbert Smith

Michael ‘Venom’ Page is out of his highly anticipated bout against Fernando Gonzalez.

Bellator officials confirmed the news with MMAJunkie but did not disclose a reason for Page’s withdrawal. He will be replaced by TUF alum and now former RFA welterweight champion Gilbert Smith.

Smith (12-4) has won four of his last five bouts including a submission victory over Benjamin Smith to capture the RFA belt last June. After appearing on The Ultimate Fighter and losing his only official bout in the UFC, he was released but managed to compile a 7-2 record outside the promotion.

Fernando Gonzalez (24-13) has gone undefeated so far in Bellator, winning four fights in a row with two coming by way of stoppage. He was expected to be Page’s step up in competition before being replaced by Smith.

Gonzalez vs Smith will be the co-main event of Bellator 151, which is headlined by a bantamweight bout between Joe Warren and Darrion Caldwell. The event takes place on March 4 in Thackerville, Oklahoma.
