A lightweight bout between Mehdi Baghdad and Jon Tuck has been added to UFC Fight Night 97 in Manila.
Baghdad (11-5) was signed by the UFC after competing on The Ultimate Fighter 22 where he went 1-1 before being eliminated from the tournament. He made his official debut while on a seven-fight win streak against Chris Wade but lost the fight due to a rear-naked choke at the end of the first round. After that, he suffered a controversial split-decision loss to John Makdessi at UFC Fight Night 90 in July.
Also a former TUF competitor is Tuck (9-3) who appeared on season 15 of the show but was eliminated in the entry round. Last year in May, he faced Tae Hyun Bang and won the bout with a first-round rear-naked choke, earning himself a $50k post-fight bonus. In his most recent appearance, he faced promotional newcomer Josh Emmett and lost via split-decision.
UFC Fight Night 97 will be the UFC’s second event in the Philippines and is set to be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. Headlining the card is a featherweight bout between former two-time UFC champion BJ Penn and #4 ranked Ricardo Lamas.
