Bellator is giving its women's featherweight title another go with two familiar names. WMMA trailblazer Marloes Coenen and Canadian talent Julia Budd are once again booked to compete for Bellator gold.
Bellator first attempted to beat the UFC out of the gate with its women's featherweight division in May of last year with a title bout between the two. The bout fizzled after Budd pulled out on short notice due to injury, and Budd was replaced by Alexis Dufresne.
Dufresne missed weight by nearly five pounds but upset the world by becoming the second woman to submit Coenen during their two round, non-title bout.
The bout will be the first women's match to headline a Bellator card, and it should be another large step for women's mma. Last year Amanda Nunes headlined two of the largest grossing MMA events of all time, and the UFC will also be expanding into the women's featherweight division at UFC 208 in February.
