Liam McGeary will now be facing Brett McDermott at Bellator 173.

The former Bellator light-heavyweight champion was originally expected to face Ireland’s own Chris Fields in the main event but an injury forced him off the card. He was then replaced by Vladimir Filipovic who was pulled from the bout a day later due to visa issues. McDermott was confirmed as a replacement opponent by SevereMMA and MMAFighting on Thursday.

Bellator 173 takes place at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Friday, February 24. The card will feature Irish natives Sinead Kavanagh and James Gallagher.

McDermott (7-4) will be making his Bellator debut. He has alternated between wins and losses in his last seven fights and holds a first-round knockout victory over Oli Thompson.

McGeary (11-1) lost his 205-lb title to Phil Davis in his last bout at Bellator 163 by unanimous decision. Prior to that, he had won eleven straight which includes wins over Tito Ortiz and Emmanuel Newton.
