Liam McGeary and Chris Fields are set to meet in a light-heavyweight bout in the main event of Bellator 173.
The matchup was confirmed by Bellator president Scott Coker who revealed the news to ESPN on Monday night.
The event is set to take place at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland on February 24. The card will also feature Fields’ SBG Ireland teammate James Gallagher whose opponent has not yet been announced.
McGeary (11-1) is coming off of the first defeat of his professional career where he lost his light-heavyweight title to Phil Davis in a five-round bout at Bellator 163. Prior to that, McGeary had won eight straight fights in the Bellator cage, seven of which he won by way of stoppage.
Fields (11-7) is 1-3-1 in his last five bouts which were fought in BAMMA and CWFC. His most recent bout is a first-round Brabo choke victory over Dan Konecke in February 2016. The highlight of his career was when he went on a seven-fight win streak between 2010 and 2012 with all victories coming by knockout or submission.
