UFC 205 has lost another one of its high-profile preliminary bouts.
Kelvin Gastelum did not show up to the official UFC 205 weigh ins and announced via Twitter this morning that he would not be able to make the welterweight limit of 171 pounds. As a result, his bout with Donald Cerrone was scrapped from the card. This marks the third time that Gastelum misses weight in his UFC career. Cerrone, a former lightweight, successfully made weight earlier at 170.4 pounds.
Strangely however, if Gastelum had officially weighed in before Cerrone, Cerrone would have had the opportunity to rehydrate back up to a weight that was within the limit of a seven-pound difference between two fighters allowed by the New York State Athletic Commission.
Thiago Alves, who was expected to make his lightweight debut on the card, missed weight by 6.6 pounds. Jim Miller was informed earlier that his opponent had missed weight and weighed in at 157 pounds to allow the fight to take place per NYSAC rules.Alves will be fined 20% of his purse which will be paid to Miller.
