UFC middleweight Josh Samman has passed away at the age of 28.
Samman was found unconscious in his apartment last Thursday alongside his friend and ring announcer Troy Kirkingburg. By the time emergency responders arrived at the scene, Kirkingburg was found dead and Samman, still unconscious, was rushed to the hospital where he stayed in a coma for about a week. Despite rumors of a drug overdose, a statement released to FOX Sports by Samman’s mother said there was no evidence of heroin in his system.
The news of his death was confirmed by his manager Gary Ibarra to FOX Sports on Wednesday morning.
The Ultimate Fighter alum released a memoir earlier this year titled The Housekeeper: Love, Death, and Prize Fighting, in which he detailed his difficulty in dealing with the tragic death of his girlfriend in 2013. He had amounted a 3-2 record in the UFC which includes his Knockout of the Year headkick victory over Eddie Gordon. He also went 3-1 on TUF 17 scoring three finishes.
The tragic loss is being mourned by many in the MMA community.
