A welterweight bout between Jorge Masvidal and Lorenz Larkin is the latest addition to UFC Fight Night 88.
The event takes place at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on May 29. A bantamweight bout between top prospects Thomas Almeida and Cody Garbrandt will headline the card. In the co-main event, Renan Barao will take on Jeremey Stephens in his featherweight debut.
Masvidal (29-10) has spent the significant part of his career at lightweight, going 5-2 in the UFC before moving up a weight class. He returned to welterweight against Cezar Ferreira at the TUF: American Top Team vs Blackzilians finale, knocking out Ferreira with a vicious elbow inside the first round. In his next bout, he faced Ben Henderson in the main event of the UFC’s debut in South Korea. He dropped a close split-decision to the former lightweight champion but impressed many, nonetheless.
Lorenz Larkin (16-5, 1 NC) is 2-1 in his past three bouts. The 29-year old bounced back from a three-fight losing streak by knocking out John Howard in just over two minutes, earning a Performance of the Night bonus. He then went on to knock out Santiago Ponzinibbio in a wild back-and-forth bout that earned a Fight of the Night bonus. Most recently, Larkin dropped a close split-decision to rising star Albert Tumenov at UFC 195.
