Jon Jones out of UFC 187, Possibly Involved in Hit and Run

Rumors began circulating today Involving an alleged hit and run accident involving UFC Light Heavyweight Champ Jon Jones. As of right now, actual details are sparse, but at least one credible source has confirmed that their UFC 187 bout has been cancelled. Albuquerque police have issued a statement that neither denies nor confirms Jones’s involvement in an accident, but it does state that an investigation is ongoing. BloodstainLane initially broke the rumors, though sources close to Front Row Brian similarly mentioned that Jones was out of his fight.

We CANNOT confirm that Jon Jones was involved in a H&R traffic accident from this morning. The investigation is ongoing.
— Albuquerque Police (@ABQPOLICE) April 26, 2015

Jones tested positive for benzoylecgonine during out of competition testing leading up to his UFC 182 title defense against Daniel Cormier. He checked himself in and out of rehab within 24 hours. He was also arrested and sentenced for a DWI back in 2012.

In his reddit AMA back in March, when asked if Jon Jones would lose to Rumble, Chael Sonnen cryptically replied that “JJ/AJ won’t happen.” When asked again, he said, "won’t happen. Mark my words." Well, numerous people marked those words as the internet broke out in speculation over what would cause the cancellation of one of the biggest headlining fights the UFC has offered in 2015. Chael returned to twitter today to drop a "told ya" on fans.

Right now the facts are still developing, but we’ll keep you updated as we know more.

Update (9:11pm): David Kano has confirmed through a series of tweets that he has spoken with Officer Simon Drobik of Albuquerque police. An older woman was transported to the hospital for injuries. Nobody close to Jones has been able to contact him.

I just got off the phone w/ Albuquerque Information Police Officer Simon Drobik here's what he said:
— David Kano (@TheDKano) April 27, 2015

"At this time Jon Jones is wanted for questioning in a hit-and-run where an older woman was transported to the hospital for injuries."
— David Kano (@TheDKano) April 27, 2015

Officer Drobik said finding drugs in Jones vehicle "false" and "I don't know where the hell that came from." Wouldn't say how JJ identified.
— David Kano (@TheDKano) April 27, 2015

Here's what we know: 1.Jon Jones IS NOT in custody. 2.He's wanted for questioning. 3.Police haven't seen his car. 4.No contact w/ him yet.
— David Kano (@TheDKano) April 27, 2015

Update 2 (11:20pm):: Jones is not definitively out of his UFC 187 fight as earlier reported.
