Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight announced possible matchups for July’s UFC on FOX 20.
A women’s bantamweight bout between former champion Holly Holm (10-1) and #9 ranked Valentina Shevchenko (12-2) is expected to headline the card along with a light-heavyweight matchup between Anthony Johnson (21-5) and Glover Teixeira (25-4) in the co-headliner.
Holm lost her title last March after being submitted in the fifth round by current champion Miesha Tate, which marks her first loss in professional MMA. The Jackson-Winklejohn standout gained most of her notoriety when she dethroned long-time bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey in a massive upset victory at UFC 193 in Melbourne. Shevchenko has gone 1-1 so far in her UFC career, winning her first bout against Sarah Kaufmann and losing the second to Amanda Nunes.
Glover Teixeira, who currently rides a three-fight win streak, called out Anthony Johnson after his latest first-round knockout victory over Rashad Evans. Teixeira’s other recent wins are a TKO against Pat Cummins and a third-round submission over Ovince St. Preux in a fight that won a Fight of the Night bonus. Johnson, on the other hand, is 4-1 in his last five bouts, none of which has gone to a decision. ‘Rumble’s’ only recent loss came against Daniel Cormier in a fight for the vacant UFC title last year.
UFC on FOX 20 marks the UFC’s fifth event in Chicago, Illinois. The fights will be held at the United Center on July 23.
