New York’s own Gian Villante is set to take on Marcos Rogerio de Lima at UFC 205 in Madison Square Garden.
While the matchup hasn’t been officially announced, it was confirmed by sources who spoke to MMAFighting.com. So far, it is the third bout that has been booked for UFC 205 joining Thiago Alves vs Al Iaquinta and Donald Cerrone vs Robbie Lawler. Rumors about a middleweight fight between former light-heavyweight champ Rashad Evans and Tim Kennedy being added are circulating.
Villante (14-7) last fought at UFC 196 in March where he dropped a unanimous decision to Ilir Latifi. The #15 ranked light-heavyweight entered that fight coming off of a first-round knockout win over Anthony Perosh in Australia last year. He has gone 4-4 since making the transition from Strikeforce to the UFC.
After making it to the semi-finals on TUF Brazil 3, de Lima (14-3-1) moved up to heavyweight for his UFC debut and knocked out Richardson Moreira. Since then, he has gone 2-1 scoring finishes over Igor Pokrajac and Clint Hester and suffering a submission loss to Nikita Krylov.
UFC 205 is set to take place on November 12 at the Madison Square Garden in NYC. The UFC has not yet booked a headlining bout for the card.
