Fedor Emelianenko has found a home with Bellator MMA.
During the Bellator 165 broadcast, the promotion announced that “The Last Emperor” had signed a multi-fight deal and is scheduled to headline Bellator 172 against former UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione.
The all-time great announced in 2015 that he would be returning to competition after a three-year retirement from the sport and made his comeback against Jaideep Singh under the Rizin FF banner. He won the bout with a first-round TKO and moved on to win a controversial decision over Fabio Maldonado on the regional circuit in Russia.
Following the bout, he revealed that he was in talks with the UFC and was taking offers from several other promotions before finally settling with Bellator.
His bout against Mitrione, which takes place at the SAP Center in San Jose, California on February 18, will be his first on US soil since 2011.
Mitrione, meanwhile, made the move to Bellator earlier this year and has gone 2-0 in the promotion with both wins coming by way of knockout. He last fought Oli Thompson at Bellator 158 who he finished in the second round.
