A rematch between Junior Dos Santos and Mark Hunt may take place at UFC 200.
A report by New-Zealand based news outlet Otago Daily Times discussed the possibility of the matchup after speaking with Hunt, who recently signed a new six-fight deal with the UFC. Hunt said that he’s still waiting to hear back from the UFC but expects a reply very soon.
The pair met back in 2013 in the co-main event of UFC 160 which was headlined by Cain Velasquez’s heavyweight title defense against “Bigfoot” Silva. Hunt and Dos Santos fought for nearly three rounds before Dos Santos stopped Hunt with a spinning hook kick in the last minute of the fight. Both men were awarded a post-fight bonus for their Fight of the Night performance.
After that bout, Hunt (12-10-1) fought “Bigfoot” Silva to a draw in what was a contender for the 2013 Fight of the Year. He moved on to score knockouts over Roy Nelson, Frank Mir, and “Bigfoot” Silva in their second bout. Dos Stantos (18-4), on the other hand, had an unsuccessful shot at the title but made his return against Stipe Miocic in a five-round back-and-forth battle. Most recently, he beat Ben Rothwell via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 86 in Zagreb, Croatia.
UFC 200 takes place on July 9 at the newly built T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will be headlined by a rematch between current Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones for the light-heavyweight title.
