Cody Garbrandt will get his wish at UFC 207.
The UFC announced on Monday that 135-lb champion Dominick Cruz will be defending his title in the co-main event of UFC 207 on December 30. The event is set to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will be headlined by Ronda Rousey’s return against bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes. Also on the card is the rematch between former heavyweight champions Cain Velasquez and Fabricio Werdum.
Following his 48-second knockout of Takeya Mizugaki at UFC 202, Garbrandt (10-0) made it clear that he wanted a shot at the belt against Cruz. He has a perfect 5-0 record in the UFC with all but one of his wins coming by way of knockout. In May, he headlined UFC Fight Night 88 opposite a 21-0 Thomas Almeida who he knocked out in under three minutes.
Cruz (22-1) is coming off of a unanimous decision win over long-time rival Urijah Faber in their rubber match at UFC 199 in June. Prior to that, he beat TJ Dillashaw to win back the bantamweight belt following his layoff due to knee injuries. Cruz’s only professional loss came against Urijah Faber in 2007.
