Derek Brunson makes quick turnaround, faces Robert Whittaker in Melbourne

Two of the UFC’s most promising rising middleweights will meet in the promotion’s return to Australia in November.

A bout between #7 ranked Robert Whittaker and #8 ranked Derek Brunson was announced on Wednesday evening by the UFC.

Brunson (16-3) is fresh off of his sub two-minute TKO victory over Uriah Hall at UFC Fight Night 94 last weekend. The win extended his current win streak to five-straight, four of which are first-round finishes. His only loss in the UFC is to Yoel Romero in 2014 making him 7-1 in the promotion.

Also entering the bout on a five-fight win streak is Whittaker (16-4) who last fought at UFC 197 where he scored a decision win over Rafael Natal. His current streak consists of knockout victories against Brad Tavares and Clint Hester as well as a unanimous decision over Uriah Hall.

UFC Fight Night 101 will be headlined by the rematch between former middleweight champion Luke Rockhold and current #3 ranked Jacare Souza at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. The UFC’s last event at the Etihad Stadium was UFC 193 where Holly Holm upset Ronda Rousey with a head-kick knockout in the second round. The event broke the UFC’s highest attendance record with over 56,000 spectators.
