Darren Elkins will face Chas Skelly in a featherweight bout at UFC 197 in Las Vegas, as announced by the UFC on Tuesday.
Darren Elkins (19-5) has fought under the UFC banner since 2010 and is currently the #11 ranked featherweight contender. The most notable period of his UFC career has come between 2011 and 2013 where he went on a 5-fight win streak. The 31-year old holds victories over Duane Ludwig, Diego Brandao, and Hatsu Hioki. He is 2-2 in his last four fights, the most recent one being a unanimous decision victory over Robert Whiteford last October in Dublin. The Indiana native looks to break the top 10 rankings with a win over Skelly.
Chas Skelly (15-1) has not been in the UFC as long as Elkins has, but he is showing a lot of promise as a relatively new prospect. Skelly lost his UFC debut to Mirsad Bektic via majority decision after being deducted a point for a pair of illegal knees. Since that fight, Skelly has won 4 straight with 3 coming by way of stoppage. His last victory was a 2nd-round submission over Kevin Souza in Brazil.
UFC 197 will take place on March 5 in Las Vegas and is headlined by a lightweight title fight between champion Rafael Dos Anjos and challenger Conor McGregor.
