UFC light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier announced on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight that he will be putting his title on the line against #1 ranked Anthony Johnson in the main event of UFC 206.
The event takes place at the Air Canada Center in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on December 10. So far, no other bouts on the card have been revealed.
Cormier (18-1) has won three straight since suffering his first professional loss to Jon Jones in January 2015. He won the vacant belt by beating Anthony Johnson at UFC 187 by submission and then defended it against Alexander Gustafsson months later with a split-decision victory. He was expected to rematch Jones at UFC 200 but Jones was pulled from the fight just days out due to a potential doping violation and was replaced with Anderson Silva, who Cormier beat via decision in a three-round non-title fight.
Johnson (22-5), who holds the UFC record for the most sub-minute knockouts at 5, has also gone on an impressive streak since his loss to Cormier. He bounced back from the loss by knocking out Jimi Manuwa in the second round of their main event bout at UFC 191 and then scored back-to-back first-round KOs against Ryan Bader and Glover Teixeira. He was awarded a post-fight bonus for all three of those wins.
