Cruz vs Faber trilogy set as co-main event of UFC 199

Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber are set to square off for the third time in the co-main event of UFC 199, as announced at the UFC Unstoppable press conference.

UFC 199 will take place at The Forum in Los Angeles, California and will be headlined by a rematch between former champion Chris Weidman and current champion Luke Rockhold for the middleweight title.

In January, Dominick Cruz (21-1) regained his UFC bantamweight title after beating TJ Dillashaw via split-decision in a fight that was awarded a Fight of the Night bonus. Prior to that, Cruz underwent his third ACL surgery following a 61-second victory over Takeya Mizugaki in his return after a three-year layoff. The only loss among Cruz’s 22 professional MMA fights came against long-time rival Urijah Faber back in 2007.

Cruz and Faber have fought twice before, winning one bout each. They first fought at WEC 26 where Faber successfully defended his featherweight title by submitting cruz in under two minutes. The rematch occurred four years later at UFC 132 where Cruz defended his UFC belt by winning a unanimous decision.

Meanwhile, Faber (33-8) is 3-1 in his last four bouts with his most recent win being a unanimous decision over Frankie Saenz at UFC 194. Both of his other recent victories have come by way of submission

UFC 199 will take place on June 4 in Los Angeles, California.
