The plot thickens as UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt is set to coach against former teammate and titleholder TJ Dillashaw in the 25th season of The Ultimate Fighter.
The news was announced by the UFC on Sunday night.
Garbrandt (11-0) impressed with his decision win over Dominick Cruz at UFC 207 just weeks ago to win the title. Dillashaw (14-3), a former member of Team Alpha Male and now a rival of Garbrandt, also fought on the card where he dominated John Lineker en-route to a decision win, setting him up for the next shot at the bantamweight title. Ever since that night, the two have been trading shots at each other through the media with Garbrandt even claiming that he has footage of knocking out Dillashaw once in a sparring session.
The pair will coach two teams of welterweights who are all either previous winners or contestants on the show. The first episode will air on April 19 on FOX Sports 1.
The bout between Garbrandt and Dillashaw doesn’t yet have a set date or location but will occur after the season is complete.
