CM Punk suffers back injury, debut against Gall postponed

CM Punk is scheduled to undergo back surgery this week and his octagon debut will be delayed as a result.

Punk, AKA Phil Brooks, was expected to make his debut sometime this summer against Mickey Gall, who recently beat Mike Jackson to earn his shot at the former WWE champ.

Punk suffered a herniated disc, similar to Cain Velasquez’s injury, and was advised by his doctor to undergo surgery. The recovery time post-surgery is expected to be 4-6 weeks so his debut is still expected to be in 2016. After speaking to, Punk said that this was a nagging injury that he’s had for a long time.

"It got bad enough to the point where I couldn't do anything the week before I went to train with the New Jersey Devils last month,” Punk said. “One day I could manage, the next day I couldn't. I've been in agony for almost a month. Chiropractor, acupuncture, massage, cryotherapy ... nothing worked."

Jamal Khayat is a writer for RoughCopy MMA. He began his training in combat sports in 2009 and has competed as an amateur in both MMA and boxing. He is currently pursuing a B.S. degree in Physics at the University of Central Florida.
