Sage Northcutt will have a new opponent at UFC 214.
The 21-year-old was originally scheduled to face fellow up-and-comer Claudio Puelles on the card but an injury forced Puelles to withdraw from the bout. As a result, 13-UFC fight veteran John Makdessi stepped in as a replacement.
UFC 214 takes place on July 29 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California and will be headlined by the rematch between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier. The co-main event of the card will feature a bout between Cris ‘Cyborg’ and Megan Anderson for the UFC women’s 145-lb title.
Makdessi (14-6) is coming off of a knockout loss to Lando Vannata at UFC 206 in December, making him 1-3 in his last four bouts. Prior to that, he won a split-decision over Mehdi Baghdad at UFC Fight Night 90 in July.
Also coming off of a loss is Northcutt (8-2) who moved up to welterweight to face Mickey Gall in December and suffered a second-round rear-naked choke loss. Prior to that, he won a unanimous decision over Enrique Marin at UFC 200.
