After Mike Bronzoulis suffered an unspecified injury in advance of Bellator 149, the promotion announced that Derek Campos will step in to face Melvin Guillard on February 19th.
Campos (15-6) has slid recently in Bellator, falling in the first round of his last two fights. But given his stable of tough matchups in the lightweight division, this slide may prove motivational for “The Stallion”. He’s twice fought Brandon Girtz, and had bouts against Patricky Freire, Estevan Payan, and Michael Chandler.
Melvin Guillard (32-15) is a very exciting lightweight that is relatively new to Bellator. A split decision loss to Brandon Girtz last August was his promotional debut and marks a continuance of his skid that bounced him out of the UFC (he’s 3-6-1 in his last ten fights). But, Guillard like Campos has a large amount of experience that he can draw from as motivation and guidance back to a victory. A perennial lightweight since his UFC debut in 2005, Guillard fought the who’s who of that division: Gleison Tibau, Nate Diaz, Cowboy Cerrone, Joe Lauzon and on.
Bellator 149 is headlined by legends of the sport and street style of matchups: Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock sit atop the card with the co-main of Kimbo Slice and Dada 5000. The fights take place February 19th at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.
