Bellator will be returning to Kansas as announced by the promotion on Wednesday.
Bellator 159 will be headlined by a #1 contender fight between bantamweights Darrion Caldwell and Joe Taimanglo with the co-main event featuring a lightweight matchup between David Rickels and Melvin Guillard. The event is scheduled to take place at the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kansas on July 22.
Darrion Caldwell (9-0), one of Bellator’s top up-and-coming prospects, faced Joe Warren in the main event of Bellator 151 in March and won the fight in dominant fashion, submitting the former two-division champion in the first round. Following the victory, Caldwell signed a new seven-fight deal with the promotion. Joe Taimanglo (22-6-1) currently rides a three-fight win streak with his latest win being a unanimous decision over Sirwan Kakai back in March. The former featherweight fighter made an unsuccessful bantamweight debut against Rob Emerson in 2014 but has not suffered a loss at 135 pounds since.
David Rickels (17-4, 1 NC) is also coming off of a first round finish. He faced Bobby Cooper at Bellator 150 and scored a TKO in the second half of the opening round, getting himself back into the win column after suffering a loss to former lightweight champion Michael Chandler. Melvin Guillard (32-16-2, 2 NC) has yet to win a bout under the Bellator banner after going 0-2 since being signed by the promotion. The former UFC lightweight most recently faced Derek Campos who he lost to via knockout in the second round.
The event will air live at 9pm ET/8pm CT on Spike TV.
