Cain Velasquez vs Travis Browne possible for UFC 200

A heavyweight bout between former champion Cain Velasquez and top contender Travis Browne is in discussion for UFC 200.

UFC 200 will occur on July 9 at International Fight Week at the newly constructed T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz is expected to headline the card which will be preceded by two other UFC events in the same week.

Velasquez (13-2) last fought in June 2015 when he lost his title to Fabricio Werdum via 3rd-round submission in Mexico City. The loss also marked the end of the former champion’s four-fight win streak which included two victories each over Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva and Junior Dos Santos. Velasquez was expected to face Werdum in a rematch at UFC 196 before being forced to pull out of the bout due to a back injury.

Travis Browne (18-3-1) is 2-2 in his past four bouts, only one of which has gone to decision. The 6-foot-7 heavyweight, who holds seven knockouts in the UFC, suffered a first-round knockout loss to former training partner Andrei Arlovski at UFC 187, a fight that won a Fight of the Night bonus. Browne bounced back from the loss by beating Matt Mitrione via 3rd round TKO in a controversial bout at UFC Fight Night 81.
