The rumored heavyweight bout between former champion Cain Velasquez and #7 ranked Travis Browne is now official for UFC 200.
Velasquez (13-2) last fought in June 2015 when he lost his title to Fabricio Werdum via third-round submission in Mexico City. The loss also marked the end of the former champion’s four-fight win streak which included two victories each over Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva and Junior Dos Santos. Velasquez’s long-awaited return was expected to occur at UFC 196 in a rematch against Werdum before Velasquez was forced out of the bout with a back injury.
Travis Browne (18-3-1) is 2-2 in his past four bouts, only one of which has gone to decision. The 6-foot-7 heavyweight, who holds seven knockouts in the UFC, suffered a first-round knockout loss to former training partner Andrei Arlovski at UFC 187, a fight that won a Fight of the Night bonus. Browne bounced back from the loss by beating Matt Mitrione via 3rd round TKO in a controversial bout at UFC Fight Night 81.
UFC 200 will take place at the newly constructed T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas during International Fight Week. A rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz will headline the card which will be preceded by two other UFC events in the same week. Another officially announced bouts include Frankie Edgar vs Jose Aldo and Johnny Hendricks vs Kelvin Gastelum.
