Brunson out of UFC 200, Santos likely to face Mousasi instead

Derek Brunson has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 200 bout against Gegard Mousasi, according to a report released by Sherdog on Sunday.

The #11 ranked middleweight is currently on a four-fight winning streak with three of the four wins coming by knockout in under three minutes of the first round. Brunson’s reason for pulling out of the bout, which was expected to be the featured bout of the UFC Fight Pass prelims, is currenty unknown but is likely due to an injury.

Thiago Santos (13-3) will likely serve as a replacement opponent for Mousasi, sources confirmed with MMAFighting. Santos is also on a four-fight win streak with his most recent win being a first-round knockout of Nate Marquardt at UFC 198 in front of his home-crowd in Brazil. Prior to that, Santos handed Elias Theodorou his first professional loss with a unanimous decision victory in December at UFC Fight Night 80.

Mousasi (38-6-2) is 3-1 in his past four outings with the single loss coming at the hands of Uriah Hall last year in September. The 46-fight veteran, who also has eight pro kickboxing fights, bounced back from the loss by scoring a unanimous decision win over #12 ranked Thales Leites at UFC London in February.

UFC 200 is set to take place on July 9 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The event will be headlined by a light-heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier in addition to a heavyweight bout between former champion Brock Lesnar and #8 ranked heavyweight contender Mark Hunt.
