BJ Penn and Yair Rodriguez are set to headline UFC Fight Night 103 in Pheonix.
The bout was announced by the UFC on Monday evening and will take place at the Talking Stick Resort Arena on January 15. This marks the third time that Penn’s return to the octagon has been scheduled since announcing his coming out of retirement earlier this year.
The former UFC champion and current Hall of Famer was originally expected to fight at UFC 199 in June but was pulled from the bout due to a run-in with USADA and rebooked to headline UFC Fight Night 97 opposite Ricardo Lamas which was cancelled after he withdrew due to injury. His last bout was a 2014 TKO loss to Frankie Edgar at The Ultimate Fighter 19 finale. He currently trains under renowned MMA coach Greg Jackson at the Jackson-Winklejohn Academy in Albuquerque.
Rodriguez (8-1) has won six fights straight and is coming off of a Fight of the Night split decision victory over Alex Caceres at UFC Fight Night 92. Prior to that, he scored a Knockout of the Year candidate flying head kick knockout over Andre Fili at UFC 197.
Other bouts announced for the card include Ben Saunders vs Court McGee and Jussier Formiga vs Sergio Pettis.
