Ben Askren set to defend ONE title against Nikolay Aleksakhin

Ben Askren will defend his ONE title in April against Nikolay Aleksakhin at ONE: Global Rivals.

While Askren holds the ONE welterweight title, the fight will take place at 185 pounds following the implementation of ONE’s new weight-cutting rules. The title will still be recognized as the welterweight title, however, following the death of a ONE fighter due to weight-cutting complications, the weight limits for each division has been moved up one class.

Askren (14-0, 1 NC), who is undefeated in his 15-fight career, has finished his last four opponents by either TKO or submission. His last bout, however, resulted in a no-contest after an accidental eye-poke against Luis Santos. A rematch was supposed to be held in November, but Santos came in overweight.

Nikolay Aleksakhin (16-3) is on a 6-fight win streak which includes four finishes. Aleksakhin made his ONE debut last November where he beat Burenzorig Batmunkh via submission with 21 seconds left in the fight.

ONE: Global Rivals takes place on April 15 in the Philippines.
