Bellator returning to Italy with MMA-Kickboxing event

Bellator will be returning to Italy for its next MMA-Kickboxing event, co-promoted with Italian promotion Oktagon.

The event will be split into an MMA portion, called Bellator 167, and a kickboxing portion called Bellator Kickboxing: Florence. The MMA event will be headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between Alessio Sakara and Joey Beltran. So far, the kickboxing event does not have a headliner lined up but it will feature a bout between Denise Kielholtz and Gloria Peritore for the inaugural women’s flyweight championship.

Sakara (18-11, 2 NC) signed with Bellator in 2016 and made his debut against Brian Rogers in his home country of Italy. He won the bout with a knockout in the second round, making him 2-0 with 1 no-contest in his last three outings. The long-time veteran competed under the UFC banner 15 times going 6-8 with 1 no-contest in the promotion. His opponent, Joey Beltran (17-13, 1 NC) is 1-2 in his last three bouts and is coming off of a split-decision loss to Chase Gormley at Bellator 155 in May.

The kickboxing flyweights, on the other hand, will be fighting in a rematch of their bout at Bellator 157 which saw Peritore win a three-round split-decision. Both women competed at Bellator’s first event in Italy with Kielholtz winning a split-decision against Veronica Vernocchi while Peritore scored a third-round TKO over Li Mingrui

The promotion has also revealed that kickboxing superstars Joe Schilling and Raymond Daniels are likely to compete on the card but don’t have opponents lined up yet.

The event takes place on December 10 at the Mandela Forum in Florence, Italy and will be broadcasted on Spike TV.
