During last weekend’s Bellator 150 broadcast, the promotion announced an upcoming event on May 20 which will be headlined by a middleweight title fight between Rafael Carvalho and Melvin Manhoef. The co-main event will feature a featherweight bout between Pat Curran and Georgi Karakhanyan.
Carvalho’s (12-1) only professional MMA loss was his very first bout—since then he has gone undefeated. Last October, Carvalho won the vacant Bellator middleweight title after scoring a TKO over Brandon Halsey with a body kick. Prior to that, he won a split-decision over top-ranked kickboxer Joe Schilling as well as a first-round TKO over Brian Rogers. His upcoming bout with Manhoef will mark his first title defense.
Manhoef (30-12-1, 2 NC) is coming off of a first-round knockout victory over Hisaki Kato last November at Bellator 146. Manhoef entered that fight coming off of back-to-back knockout losses to Joe Schilling and Alexander Shlemenko. The result of the Shlemenko bout was overturned into a No Contest after Shlemenko failed a drug test.
In the co-main event, former Bellator champion Pat Curran will take on featherweight contender Georgi Karakhanyan. Curran has not fought since the summer of 2015 when he beat Emmanuel Sanchez via unanimous decision. Karakhanyan’s most recent fight was a unanimous decision loss to Daniel Weichel at Bellator 147. His last victory was a technical submission over stand-out wrestler Bubba Jenkins at Bellator 132.
Bellator 155 takes place on May 20 in Boise, Idaho.
