Bellator 154 announced: ‘King Mo’ vs Phil Davis, Thomson vs Chandler

On Friday, Bellator announced the main and co-main event for Bellator 154, which takes place in May.

Phil Davis will take on ‘King Mo’ in a #1 contender bout at light-heavyweight to determine who gets the next shot at current champion Liam McGeary. Davis (15-3, 1 NC) signed with Bellator in 2015 and has won two fights under the promotion’s banner since. Both wins came during the ‘Bellator Dynamite: 1’ tournament back in September. Davis was expected to face ‘King Mo’ in the finals, who ended up being replaced with Francis Carmont after getting injured in his semi-finals bout. ‘King Mo’ (19-4, 1 NC) recently won a heavyweight tournament promoted by RIZIN, where he won three fights in two days.

In the co-main event, UFC veteran Josh Thomson will take on former Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler. Thomson (22-8, 1 NC) is 2-0 in Bellator with his last win being a TKO over Pablo Villaseca at Bellator 147. Chandler (14-3) lost his belt to Eddie Alvarez in 2013 followed by two back-to-back losses to Will Brooks—the first fight being for an interim belt and the second for the vacant belt. Chandler has gotten himself back into the win column since then after scoring finishes over Derek Campos and David Rickels.

Bellator 154 will take place on May 14 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California.
