A pair of intriguing bouts have been added to UFC 211.
The UFC announced that lightweights Dustin Poirier and Eddie Alvarez will square off on the card in addition to a featherweight bout between Frankie Edgar and Yair Rodriguez.
Alvarez (28-5) is coming off of the loss of his lightweight title by second-round knockout to current champion Conor McGregor. Prior to that, he was on a three-fight win streak which consisted of split-decisions over Gilbert Melendez and Anthony Pettis as well as a first-round knockout of Rafael dos Anjos. Poirier (21-5) is 5-1 in his last six bouts with the most recent being a majority decision win over Jim Miller. Following his 2014 loss to McGregor, he moved up to lightweight and went on a five-fight win streak which was eventually stopped with a knockout loss to Michael Johnson.
Edgar (21-5-1) last fought at UFC 25 where he beat Jeremy Stephens via unanimous decision. Prior to that, he had a five-fight win streak stopped in his rematch with Jose Aldo. Rodriguez (10-1) recently headlined UFN 103 where he knocked out BJ Penn in the second round in the biggest win of his career. The win extended his UFC record to a perfect 6-0 including his Knockout of the Year candidate victory over Andre Fili.
UFC 211 takes place on May 13 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas and will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight and rematch between champion Stipe Miocic and challenger Junior Dos Santos.
