Aljamain Sterling will finally face Bryan Caraway, an opponent he has been asking to fight for a very long time.
The bantamweight bout was officially announced by the UFC and is expected to take place at UFC Fight Night 88. The card will be headlined by a bout between rising prospects Thomas Almeida and Cody Garbrandt. Also on the card is the featherweight debut of former champion Renan Barao which will be against Jeremy Stephens.
Sterling (12-0) has been on a tear ever since entering the UFC in 2014 as an undefeated 8-0 prospect. The 26-year old has won four straight under the promotions banner, three of which came by way of submission. Most recently, ‘The Funk Master’ submitted Johnny Eduardo with a standing guillotine at the end of the second round at UFC Fight Night 80 in December. Sterling also impressed with another unique submission over Takeya Mizugaki, tapping out the long-time MMA veteran with an arm-triangle choke from his guard.
Caraway (20-7) has gone 4-2 since dropping down to bantamweight for the first time in 2012. The 27-fight veteran is last fought in July of 2015 when he beat Eddie Wineland via unanimous decision. Prior to that, Caraway faced Raphael Assuncao, who he lost a unanimous decision to.
UFC Fight Night 88 takes place on May 29 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
