A bantamweight bout between #3 ranked Raphael Assuncao and #8 ranked Aljamain Sterling will take place at UFC Fight Night 102 in Albany, Sterling revealed on social media.
The event is set to take place on December 9 at the Times Union Center and will be the promotion’s second event in New York. Also on the card is a heavyweight bout between Francis Ngannou and Anthony Hamilton.
Assuncao (23-5) is coming off of a loss to former bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw in a rematch of their bout in 2013, which Assuncao won by split-decision. The loss snapped his seven-fight win streak which began in 2011 and includes finishes over Vaughan Lee and Issei Tamura. His most recent win is a unanimous decision over Bryan Caraway in 2014 after which he was forced to take time off due to injuries.
Also coming off of a loss is Sterling (12-1) who was undefeated in his professional career entering his UFC Fight Night 88 bout against Bryan Caraway, who he lost to by split-decision. The 27-year old prospect entered that fight after finishing his last three opponents, a TKO over Hugo Viana and submissions over Takeya Mizugaki and Johnny Eduardo.
